Students of the Louisiana Academy of the Performing Arts (LAAPA) will be spreading a bit of Christmas cheer and goodwill this month by sharing their music and dance talent with the community to support the poorest of the poor with the Teresian Sisters’ Mission.
Students from LAAPA’s Mandeville School of Music & Dance and Covington Schools of Music will present their Christmas MISSION BENEFIT Recitals on Saturday, December 16th at the Furhmann Auditorium, 317 N. Jefferson Avenue, Covington. The series of SIX RECITALS will be held throughout the day and into the night on Saturday at 10:30, 12:30, 2:45, 4:45, and 6:45 and again on Sunday, December 17 at 2 PM.
LAAPA students will be singing and performing throughout the day with different students in each and every performance. They will all be making a “joyful noise unto the Lord” singing and performing on the piano, guitar, violin, drum, all wind and brass instruments and our dance students will be performing as well!
The entire community is invited to attend the performances. In addition to wrapped gifts, this year we have been asked by the Mission to accept donations of several “basic needs” items as mentioned below.
Admission for the program is one of the following per adult: wrapped toy for a child (indicate boy or girl and appropriate age), diapers all sizes NB through 5, baby clothes all sizes to Toddler 3, baby and adult toiletries such as soap and shampoo, winter clothes (especially jackets used and in good shape), or check in any amount made payable to Teresian Sisters’ Mission.
The gifts and needed items will go to a mission in Batesville and Uvalde, Texas, that is run by the Teresian Sisters under the direction of Sister Angeles Sendin, STJ.
