Steele's Pumpkin Patch in Angie {Worth the Drive}

Steele’s Pumpkin Patch in Angie {Worth the Drive}

I just went on my first field trip with my big Kindergartner to Steele’s pumpkin patch and corn maze. It’s located in Angie, Louisiana and is a bit of a drive, but worth it in my opinion. Although, I will admit I was skeptical at first. When I first turned in, I just saw a bunch of pumpkins thrown in the grass with a sign that said “pumpkin patch.” It is actually a Christmas tree farm with trees all over. However, there were plenty of things for the kids to do and they loved it. There’s a gift shop and ...

Family Fun at Southern Promiseland Farm and Corn Maze

Family Fun at Southern Promiseland Farm and Corn Maze

My entire life I've heard about corn mazes, but I had never heard of one in Louisiana. I assumed it was a northern or a midwest thing and resigned myself to a life without corn mazes. That is until a few weeks ago when someone in one of my mom groups shared a flyer from Southern Promiseland Farm. Located in Kiln, MS, Southern Promiseland is about an hour's drive from the Covington area. I called and asked if I could pay them a visit and was able to head up there yesterday and explore the farm while a couple of ...

Liuzza Land Fall Public Days {Worth the Drive}

Liuzza Land Fall Public Days {Worth the Drive}

Most people on the Northshore know Liuzza Land--a local farm that's open to the public in the Spring for strawberry picking season. What not everyone knows is that Liuzza Land also does a couple of open days in the Fall during pumpkin season. I had heard about these days last year, but decided my kids were still a little young for so much activity. This year, however, I thought they were ready. So at about 12:30 we packed up the truck and headed out to Amite. It was about a 45 minute drive from my house in Abita Springs to ...

Halloween with Food Allergies

Halloween with Food Allergies

Halloween is a time for ghosts and goblins and haunted houses. But, for parents of a child with food allergies, Halloween is extra scary. It's a holiday all about candy – candy that is, for the most part, laden with nuts, dairy, soy, and even wheat – part of a group of allergens known as the Top 8. The first Halloween we knew about my daughter's peanut allergy, we went to the store to buy candy to hand out that would be safe to have around our house, even though we didn't really intend for her to eat any of ...

DIY Halloween Wreath

DIY Halloween Wreath

This month I set out to make my Halloween door decoration this year, I decided to make it a little more challenging for myself. I love crafts and I LOVE Halloween, and I tend to go a tad overboard with things. So this year I challenged myself to make a Halloween wreath for just ten dollars. And while I did go out and spend ten dollars, the finished product ended up costing even less--seven bucks! I described this wreath to my husband as "what a witch would hang on her door." I hope it inspires you to make your own ...

How To Get Older Children Involved in Halloween

How To Get Older Children Involved in Halloween

A few days ago I mentioned on Facebook that my kids have yet to discuss Halloween Costumes with me. Normally the kids have chosen their costumes and are itching to get them on. Between Halloween Parties, themed birthday parties, and trunk o treats at local churches we normally get our monies worth out of each costumes. But this year....silence! Fond memories of our first Halloween helps me get through the sadness of my children growing up. I remember dressing my daughter as a little kitty cat and my son was a cowboy for their first Halloween. Princess, Ballerinas, football players, ...

Man Creates His Own Halloween Costumes–And Adds Them In at the Store

Halloween costume shopping can be a little ridiculous. The costumes are expensive and often silly. And the things they try to make sexy? Yikes.
