Free Library Apps {St. Tammany Parish}

Everyone likes free stuff, right? And digital gadgets are really popular to give and receive during the holidays. If you haven’t already heard, the St. Tammany Parish Library offers several free apps to enhance your listening, reading, and watching enjoyment. Users only need to have a fine free library account within the parish. All work on a laptop or PC, but certain tablets and operating system restrictions are noted in the following app descriptions.

hoopla

hoopla – the newest and most broad spectrum virtual collection offers movies, TV shows, music, and audiobooks. You are normally allowed 10 checkouts per month; however, for December and January the library is giving you an extra 5 checkouts per account per month. That’s 15 checkouts a month for the next two months! Hoopla works on all devices, but for Kindle you must have HDX. This app also works on Apple TV. There’s no holds or waiting for something to be returned either!

3m cloud library

3M – is strictly eBooks. There’s no limit to how many you can have checked out at a time, and each item gets checked out for 21 days. It’s available to use on any device, but Kindle users must have a Fire or higher. The app is not available in the Kindle store, so you need to go to slideme.org to download it.

overdrive

OverDrive – is eBooks and audiobooks. Users are allowed to check out up to 10 items at a time. Check outs can be set for 7, 14, or 21 days in your account, and you can change it at any time. No more than 10 items are allowed to be checked out at a time. There’s plenty of stuff for kids and adults. This app is available for all Wi-Fi devices.

freegal

Freegal – remember Napster? This is the legal version. This is Sony music and music videos that you can keep forever. Users are allowed 5 downloads per week, and the app works on any device with Wi-Fi.

Zinio_logo

Zinio – magazines weigh a ton with those glossy pages. Now you can download them and read them on your tablet or phone without dislocating your shoulder! There’s no limit to how many you get at a time.Users can keep them forever, or you can get rid of them as you finish each issue by editing your reading list. Back issues are available, too, and the app works on any device with Wi-Fi.

Whether you need something for yourself or the kids to occupy some time over the holidays, or if you get a tablet as a gift, you don’t need to look any further than the St. Tammany Parish Library’s website to find all of these goodies! Happy Holidays!
