Four New Restaurants Opening in West St. Tammany

Restaurants continue to pop up all over the parish and today I’m going to tell you about a few. Hopefully you’ll find something new you want to try!

safa-covington

Safa Mediterranean Grill

70380  Highway 22, Covington. Mediterranean lovers on the west side of Covington can rejoice–there’s an authentic-style Greek place opened up in what used to be Hickory Blues and Barbecue. I stopped in to grab a menu and the smell was amazing! This is very traditional-style food, but they have a three item kids menu if you want to bring the family. I’ve gotten one note from a reader that the food is very good, but I haven’t tried it myself. Their website can be found here.

smoke-bbq-covington

Smoke BBQ

1005 North Collins Blvd. Deep in Covington a former bank is busy being remodeled into a BBQ restaurant called Smoke BBQ. I’m not sure of an opening date, but I drove around and saw an actual smoker on the premises so that bodes well for tasty food!

jimmy-johns-covington

Jimmy Johns (Second Location)

1111 Green Gate Drive, Covington, LA. If you’ve been dying to have Jimmy Johns delivered, but were out of range, you may be in luck! A second location has recently opened on 190 in Covington across from Lowes. These are very traditional style sub sandwiches. Cookies are pretty awesome too.

dunkin-donuts-covington

Dunkin’ Donuts

1111 Green Gate Drive, Covington, LA. There are going to be some very happy coffee drinkers in town. I’m not a coffee fanatic myself, but people rave about DD’s brew, so I’m guessing it’s good. They’ll be opening in the same shopping center as Jimmy Johns and they’re already hiring, so I bet they’ll be open soon.

glory-bound-covington

Glory Bound Gyro Company

500 River Highlands Blvd., Covington, LA. I reported on this back when it was just a mound of construction dirt, but Glory Bound Gyro Company will be hosting their “soft opening” this weekend! It’s southern meets Mediterranean and they’ve got about ten different hummus choices on the menu! I tried a few last week and they’re delicious (and healthy). GBGC is owned and operated by the same local guy who owns Mugshots, so be sure to support him in his latest venture. If you’d like to check out the soft opening this weekend, it’s reservation only with all the proceeds going to benefit local charities. Here’s everything you need to know:

Friday July 17, Saturday July 18 & Sunday July 19
CALL (985) 871-0711
All proceeds from this 3 day event will be donated to:
1. Reagan’s Peanut Butter Project
2. Team Buna
3. Children’s Advocacy Center (Hope House)
4. Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center
