The word is out–Popeyes had a great chicken sandwich but right now it’s sold out. Have no fear! While we all love Popeye’s, especially during parade season, there are actually a LOT of great chicken sandwiches on the Northshore that you can still check out. I surveyed the members of our Norhshore Food Group and they suggested these amazing sandwiches for you consideration.
Pimento Cheesy Chicken Sandwich
Wow America Eats located on Highway 1085 in Covington (close to Hannan High School I think) has a fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese spread and topped with maple-pepper bacon and chipotle-marinated pickles. All served on a craft bun.
Buffalo Fried Chicken
Old Rail in Mandeville offers a fried chicken sandwich topped with their homemade hot sauce, blue cheese dressing, cheddar, shredded lettuce, red onions, and homemade pickles. Served this on a potato bun.
Honey Island Chicken
Mentioned multiple times in our poll, this chicken delight from Zea’s is served grilled or fried, and topped with jack cheese, tomato, bacon, lettuce, and a creole honey mustard.
Chicken Peaux Boy
Southside cafe in Slidell serves a paneed chicken breast on french bread. Like any traditional po boy dressed means it’s topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo and pickles.
Jim and Dave’s Kickin’ Chicken
One respondent said “Experience it and count your life changed.” Who can argue with that? Served at The Mariner’s Inn of Hammond, this sandwich in one of their most popular items. It features chicken tenders topped with ranch and cheddar cheese.
Garlic Parmesan Chicken
A different kind of chicken sandwich, this one is not fried. Sticks’ Garlic Parmesan Chicken sandwich features smoked chicken combined with garlic, parmesan cheese and green onions. This one is also a personal favorite. Sticks also has some great sandwiches that they do as specials–the cyclone and the chicken bacon ranch both got mentions in our poll.
We actually had more we wanted to include! To see everyone else’s responses you should join our Northshore food group and until Popeyes works out their shortage you should definitely try one of these!
