5 Ways to Prepare Your Child for Kindergarten

It is almost time to head back to school, so taking the time now to prepare your child for this transition is essential. It does not have to be difficult preparing your child for school, all it takes is a little forethought. Take a look below at 5 ways to prepare your child for a new school year. These tips are sure to make the transition an easier one.

1. Prepare your materials.

Do your back to school shopping together and start compiling your materials. This will help your child feel more organized and start to anticipate the changes happening. They will also enjoy buying the new items and supplies as it will help them feel as though they have a fresh start ahead.

2. Start a countdown.

Create a colorful paper chain or even track the number of days until school starts on a chalkboard. This is a great way to see how many days are left until the first day and really start building the anticipation. It can also help you see how many days you have left to plan, gather materials, etc.

3. Have a play date.

Arrange a play date with some other kids from school. This is a great way to start getting excited together. On the first day, it will be great for kids to see a familiar face again. This is also a great time for you to get reacquainted with other parents.

4. Make the ordinary extraordinary.

Find ways to make those first few back to school lunches fun and special. Hide mini notes in your child’s bag. Have a small back to school celebration. Play fun music in the mornings. Hang up streamers at breakfast. Find ways to make the first few days fun and exciting.

5. Don’t forget to talk.

Talk each night about any fears your child may have. Set goals for the new school year together as well. Take a little time to chat about what they are feeling and find out how you can make the transition an easier one.
