There’s no time quite like the holidays and these days the holidays seem to start as soon as Halloween has ended! No worries–we have a complete list of holiday activities happening in our area. And this is just the tip of our holiday coverage! Please check out our holiday hub for all things Christmas in south Louisiana. 

Friday, November 17th, 2017

Holiday Movie Mini-Marathon. 6PM. Hammond Library. Mickey’s Christmas Carol followed by Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas.

Starry November Night. 6-10PM. Downtown Hammond.  The event will kick off at La Caretta with the arrival of Santa in the sleigh at 6:00pm. Children are welcome to follow Santa to the Kid Zone, located on North Cypress Street, where there will be holiday fun for all ages! Snow will be in the streets for children to play. The Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center will have free controlled admission, giving children the chance to play in the center, write letters to Santa enjoy cookies and milk and have their Christmas photo taken with Santa Claus.

Guests can take a ride through Downtown in a horse-drawn carriage for only $5 per ride. Loading and ticket sales take place on South Cate Street. Children 5 and under ride free, all children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Ticket sales will begin around 6:30pm.

The Hammond Downtown Development District is pleased to offer this event at no cost. Anyone 21 or older who would like to participate in the wine tasting may purchase a wristband and tasting glass for $20 at the Downtown Development District Office at #2 W. Thomas St. Don’t forget your ID!

Northshore Parent Holiday Tea. 9AM or 2PM. Maison Lafitte. Enjoy tea at historic Maison Lafitte. Children will enjoy Christmas carols before being welcomed by Mrs. Claus. Festivities also include individualized gifts for the children, hot cocoa bar, storytime with Mrs. Claus, holiday market, letters to Santa station, and professional Santa picture. Tickets available online.

Christmas Extravaganza. 10AM-5PM. St. Tammany Parish Fair Grounds. Featuring more than 500 artists from the multi-state area. $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.

Ballet Apetrei Nutcracker 7PM. Mandeville High School. Ticket prices range from $10-$35 and are available for purchase at Pineapple Gallery in Mandeville.

Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Yuletide Concert. 7:30PM. Columbia Theater. A fun program of holiday musical favorites for the entire family featuring local student choirs! Tickets available on their website.

December 2nd

59th Annual Rotary Club of Hammond Christmas Parade. 5PM This year’s theme is “Cypress Tree, O Cypress Tree.” See information about the route and how to participate in the parade on the Rotary’s website.

Merry Madisonville Parade. 4-8PM. Downtown Madisonville. The Parade starts at the Maritime Museum and winds through town and ends on the Riverfront in front of Town Hall. It is led by the Mayor who is followed by the Court of the Krewe of Tchefuncte, bands, dancers, classic cars and more!  The Parade makes one stop on the way for a Champagne toast and then continues on to Town Hall to await the arrival of Santa! Santa and Mrs. Clause arrive by boat.  The festivities also include the lighting of the Christmas tree, caroling, and Santa’s Workshop.

Sips of the Season. 5-9PM. The Sips of the Season beverage stroll requires purchase of a souvenir mug available in advance for $20 at Cameo Boutique, Das Schulerhaus Gifts, and Varsity Sports. This event is a sell out so purchase your mug now if you’d like to participate.

Christmas Past Festival 9AM-3PM. Old Mandeville. Girod Street in Old Mandeville. Musician Amanda Shaw to perform from 12:30-2:00 PM, vendors with food, crafts, art, gifts, clothes, etc. facepainting, Games, Superheroes, Disney Characters, Irish Dancing, Northshore Roller Derby, and more.

Christmas at the Square. 10AM-Noon. Hammond Square Mall. Santa & Mrs. Claus, Bayou Selfie Photos, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Face Painting, Caricature Artist, Can Food Drive for Our Daily Bread, Live radio remote with Cajun 107.1 giving away a “Hammond Square Holiday Prize Pack.”

Merry Sithmas. 2-3PM. Mandeville Library. Children ages 6-11 are invited to celebrate the release of the new Star Wars movie at the library! We’ll read from the Strange Case of the Origami Yoda, make Origami Yoda finger puppets, create Star Wars crafts, and play fun games like “Storm Trooper Bowling” and “Pin the Bow on the Droid”. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Chex Mix, Donut Holes, Graham Crackers, and Hawaiian Punch will be served.

Deck the Rails. 4-7PM. Covington Trailhead. Kids events.

Winter on the Water. 4-7PM. At 4:00 The Annual Winter on the Water (WOW) will begin on the Mandeville Lakefront. Santa’s parade starts at 4:00 on Lakeshore drive at the harbor and ends at the Gazebo. Mayor Donald Villere will arrive at the gazebo along with Santa to light the oaks at approximately 5:15. We will conclude the event with the annual boat parade. Admission is free and open to the public. Remember to bring cameras for pictures with Santa.
